TheCurb Your Enthusiasmstar became a mom in 2004 when she and her ex-husband, Paul Young, welcomed their only child together.

“I think one good one, and I’m out,” Hines told PEOPLE about whether or not she planned to have more kids. “I know people have more than one kid and they manage to divide the time, but I don’t know if I could do it. I like having one that I can give everything to.”

Hines has since become a loving stepmom to her husband,Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s six children, but she still shares an extra special bond with Catherine, whom she affectionately calls Cat.

From a young age, Catherine has done everything with her mom, including appearing in her films and walking the red carpet. Nowadays, they are business partners for their brand Hines + Young, and Hines has expressed that no matter what, Catherine has her support.

She was born in 2004

Hines and Young married on Dec. 30, 2002, and welcomed their daughter a year and a half later on March 8, 2004. When Catherine was 6, the pair filed for divorce and shared custody of her.

“They will remain extremely close friends and will raise their daughter together,” Hines' rep said in a statement about their separation, perE! Online.

Though Hines admitted Catherine wasn’t always “well-behaved,” she shared that her child knew how to use humor to her advantage.

“The problem is I tell Catherine how cute she is every day and how much I love her,” she told PEOPLE in 2011. “So when she misbehaves, she says something that she knows will make me laugh. Then it softens me up a bit.”

Hines was a hands-on working mom

Hines worked hard to balance her acting career and being a present mom for her daughter.

“I really love working, and it makes me happy to work, and to me, that’s important, because it makes me a happy mom,” she told PEOPLE in 2010. “When I’m home, I try not to think about work, and when I’m at work, I try not to obsess about what I’m missing at home.”

During their quality time at home, Hines shared that she loved “putting my daughter to bed at night.”

“And I’m there in the morning when she wakes up so I can send her to school,” she added.  “You just have to carve out time — it’s a precious commodity — and manage it properly.”

TheGrinchactress also shared that Catherine loved joining her on set and followed the rules when she was in the studio. “She sits at the monitors and knows that she can’t make a peep or she’ll get kicked out,” Hines said. “We have a lot of fun together. She’s a very funny girl!”

Catherine remains close with her childhood nanny

When she couldn’t be home, Hines leaned on her longtime personal assistant, Sarita, for help, calling her the “light in the port.”

According to Hines, the two originally connected when she was working onCurb Your Enthusiasmand was hiring someone to keep her organized. They bonded over their Tallahassee roots, and Sarita’s role eventually developed into a nanny upon Catherine’s birth.

Throughout eight years, Hines could count on Sarita to be there for her daughter. “Catherine is the person she is because of Sarita,” the actress said. “As a parent, the only thing that matters really is that you’re raising your child to be the best person they can be, and Sarita knows that, and she knew that then. She taught Cat so much.”

Today, the trio remain friends. “Catherine means the world to me,” Sarita said on the show. “She was my best friend. … I can’t imagine my world without [Cheryl and Catherine]. It’s still a very close bond.”

Catherine has always been a natural performer

Whether it’s her entertainment industry parents or the “showbiz in her blood,” Catherine has been a natural performer since childhood.

“If we have friends visiting, she gets into her tutu and does comedy bits,” Hines toldParadein 2010.

She also loved having her picture taken. “We go to Whole Foods and if there is a photographer out there she literally wants to stop,” Hines shared with PEOPLE in 2010. “For some reason she loves the paparazzi!”

Catherine even shared the silver screen with her mom in two films —RVin 2006 andThe Grandin 2007. Still, she worried about her little one following her footsteps into acting.

“I’d support her in anything she wants to do, but I’d tell her not to be an actress unless she literally felt a burning in her belly, telling her she had to be,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s a tough road.”

Catherine’s stepdad is Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Four years after Catherine’s parents divorced, her mom wed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in August 2014, and with the marriage came six siblings from Kennedy’s side. “[He’s] a devoted dad and an all-around good guy,” Hines told PEOPLE that same year.

Ahead of the wedding, Hines was excited about blending their tribes. “It’s fun that thetwo families are coming together,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s very sweet that way. I come from a big family and the Kennedys are a big family. It feels natural. It feels fun.”

Most recently, Kennedy ran for president and had his wife’s support before dropping out in October 2023.

Catherine is a college student

Catherine graduated from high school in June 2022, and her mom couldn’t have been more excited about the achievement.

“One day we’re twirling around in teacups & the next day you’re graduating from high school! Cat, my beautiful girl, I’m so proud of you,” Hines wrote onInstagram. “You’re smart, bold, beautiful, funny, thoughtful & you just radiate light.”

Two months later, the mother-daughter duo packed up and took a road trip to get Catherine to college. “Road trip to college send off,” she wrote beside avideoof the adventure. “Happy tears. To all of the parents - we’re gonna be okay!!!“

Now at college, Catherine seems to be having a great time enjoying new experiences with friends andjoining a sorority.

Catherine became her mom’s business partner in 2023

After she initiallyteased a collaborationwith her daughter, Hines revealed that they founded a cosmetic company in May 2023.

“I can finally share that my daughter Cat and I are launching a self care line Hines+Young!” she wroteon Instagram, calling the occasion “one of the most exciting days” of her life.

For her part, Catherine captioneda postthat she was “so grateful to have created this amazing brand with my incredible mother and best friend.”

Starting college and a business may seem like a lot to take on at once, but it was all part of Hines’ master plan to stay close to her daughter while she was away at school.

“I was getting so sad that she was about to leave home, and I was trying to figure out a way to keep her close to me in a different way other than living together,” she toldMorning Honey. “Of course, she’s growing up and needs to move out and be on her own, but I also wanted to empower her as a young woman. I asked her if we could start a company together.”
