When it comes to having Woods onWhat We Do in the Shadows— particularly, during its final season as the series sadlyinches closer to its conclusion— showrunner and executive producer Paul Simms tells PEOPLE that it was a long time coming.
“Zach is someone we’ve wanted to have on the show since the beginning, but we wanted to find a good Colin Robinson story for him to be in, since we’re all fans ofThe Office,” he says. “Watching Zach and Mark improvise about extremely banal stuff — like the recent rules changes in baseball or bathroom tile renovations — is one of the funniest things in the world to me.”
And Simms is right. The interaction between the two actors' characters is hilarious to watch — and them both having been onThe Officeis an added bonus, given how much they both perfected that dry delivery on the series.
Echoing that sentiment, Proksch tells PEOPLE, “Zach is not only a friend, but also one of my favorite actors to work with. He’s such a funny and intuitive performer. It really felt like we hadn’t skipped a beat since our time onThe Office.”
