Anthony Anderson Announced as 75th Emmy Awards Host: 'Over the Moon That Taylor Swift Was Unavailable'

On Wednesday, Fox and the Television Academy announced thatAnthony Andersonwill be stepping in to host the 75th annual Emmy Awards. The three-hour ceremony will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles on Jan. 15, which isMartin Luther King Jr. Day.

Anderson, who has received seven consecutive Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, is succeedingKenan Thompsonafter theSaturday Night Livestar hosted the event in 2022.

“With our industry’s recent challenges behind us, we can get back to what we love — dressing up and honoring ourselves,” Anderson, 53, said ina statement. “And there’s no better celebratory moment to bring the creative community together than the milestone 75th Emmy Awards.”

The formerBlack-ishstar added, “When FOX asked me to host this historic telecast, I was over the moon that Taylor Swift was unavailable, and now I can’t wait to be part of the biggest night in television.”

Emmy nominationswere announcedin July. At the time,Successiondominated with a whopping 27 nominations. ButThe Last of Us,The White LotusandTed Lassoracked up several nods as well.

The ceremony was initially intended to commence in September. However, strikes from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) initially delayed the event.

After weeks of picketing, both organizations eventuallyreached an agreementwith the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), allowing for business to proceed as usual.

The 75th Emmy Awards will air on Jan. 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET on FOX. It will also be available to stream on Hulu the next day.
