Ariana DeBose Reacts to 2024 Critics Choice Awards Joke About Her Singing: 'Didn't Find It Funny'

Ariana DeBosedid not appreciate a joke made about her at the 2024Critics Choice Awards.

During Sunday’s awards ceremony, DeBose’s name was inserted into the punchline of a joke presentersBella RamseyandAnthony Ramosmade while they presented the ceremony’s award for best song. (DeBose’s Disney movieWishreceived a nomination for the song “This Wish.")

After the ceremony, DeBose, 32, wrote on herInstagramStory: “No I didn’t find it funny. Lol.”

Other nominees for best song at the Critics Choice Awards included “What Was I Made For?” as well as Dua Lipa’sBarbietrack “Dance the Night,” Jack Black’s “Peaches” fromThe Super Mario Bros.Movieand Lenny Kravitz’s “Road to Freedom” fromRustin.

While Ramos, who appeared with DeBose inHamilton’s original Broadway cast, and Ramsey presented the best song award Sunday, the pair referenced Lipa, 28, Kravitz, 59, and Eilish, 22, as notable performers in the music industry before labeling DeBose, Black and Gosling as “actors who also think they are singers.”

Outside of his acting career, Black is part of the band Tenacious D, whichwon the Grammy for best metal performancein 2014. The band’s 2012 albumRise of the Fenixalso received a Grammy nomination at the time for best comedy album.

Last February, DeBose performed a musical number at the 2023BAFTA Awardsthat shared praise for a number of women nominated for awards andsubsequently went viral after the ceremony. While DeBose eventuallyjoked about the unexpectedly viral rap, she did appear todeactivate her Twitter accountafter social media users criticized herfor the performance at the time.
