Chris Evanshung up his Captain America suit in favor of a more meaningful role: a husband.

TheAvengersactormarriedAlba Baptistaon Sept. 9, 2023, at a private estate in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. While Evans has shared snaps of the two on his Instagram,PEOPLE’s 2022 Sexiest Man Aliveand his wife have mainly kept their relationship private.

Though they were first linked in January 2022, it wasn’t until November that a sourceconfirmed their relationship to PEOPLEand shared they’d been dating for a year. Evans followed the news with an Instagram confirmation two months later.

TheCaptain Americastar opened up to PEOPLE in November 2022 about his desire to start a family and settle down, though he didn’t mention the Portuguese actress at the time.

“That’s absolutely something I want: wife, kids, building a family,” Evans said. “When you read about most of the best artists, whether it’s actors, painters, writers, most of them [admit] it wasn’t the work they made [that they are most proud of], it was about the relationships; the families they created, the love they found, the love they shared.”

“So it’s also something through my long 41 years that also rings true. Those things are the most important,” he added. “I love the idea of tradition and ceremony. I had a lot of that in my life, so the idea of creating that — I can’t think of anything better.”

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Baptista followed Evans back on Instagram in 2021 after he followed her in the fall of 2020 when both were filming projects in Europe, leading to speculation the two might be an item.

November 10, 2022: A source confirms to PEOPLE that Chris Evans is dating Alba Baptista

A week after Evans was named Sexiest Man Alive, a source told PEOPLE that the pair had been dating “for over a year and it’s serious.”

“They are in love and Chris has never been happier,” the insider added. “His family and friends all adore her.”

January 6, 2023: Chris Evans makes his relationship with Alba Baptista Instagram official

Evans treated his fans to asneak peek of his life with Baptistafor the first time in a video he posted on his Instagram Story, though hisaccount has since been deactivated.

“A look back at 2022 ❤️❤️❤️,” the actor wrote at the top of the video, which gave a glimpse into how the pair pranked each other on eight different occasions.

The compilation showed Evans and Baptista scaring each other as they did laundry, passed through doorways and even as they walked past each other. By the end, it seemed like Baptista had caught on to Evans’ sneaky ways, exclaiming, “I knew it!” as he attempted to scare her behind a doorway.

February 14, 2023: Chris Evans shares snaps of him and Alba Baptista on Valentine’s Day

Evansshared his love for Baptista on Valentine’s Daywith a series of photos of the two hiking, traveling together and spending time withEvans’ dog Dodger.

He also posted a video on his Instagram Story of Baptista playing an iconic Nintendo game.

“…I introduced her to Mario Bros 3,” Evans wrote on top of the video. “(She hates this video but I LOVE it).”

April 18, 2023: Alba Baptista supports Chris Evans at the premiere of his movieGhosted

While the couple did not make their official red carpet debut at the premiere ofGhosted, Baptista attended the event in support of Evans.

September 9, 2023: Chris Evans and Alba Baptista get married in Cape Cod, Massachusetts

A source confirmed to PEOPLE that Evans and Baptista tied the knot in a private ceremony in Cape Cod.

After the ceremony, Evans and his bridepartied at their Boston-area home, with a source telling PEOPLE “a large tent and dance floor were set up at the house” and music was heard into thenight.

The couple’s famous friends poured out in droves for the wedding, especially Evans’ Marvel costars, includingRobert Downey Jr.and his wife,Susan Downey;Chris Hemsworthand his wife,Elsa Pataky; andJeremy Renner.

John KrasinskiandEmily Bluntwere also spotted returning after a post-wedding party at Evans' Boston-area home. “They were very happy, joking and smiling,” a source told PEOPLE of the couple.

September 11, 2023: A source tells PEOPLE Chris Evans and Alba Baptista “got serious quickly”

Days after the couple’s nuptials, a source opened up to PEOPLE about their relationship, sharing that “it was kind of love at first sight” for the actors.

“They got serious very quickly,” the source shared, confirming the pair met in Europe. “He kept saying he knew she was the one.”

Evans has reportedly “been the happiest since they met,” and she is “everything to him,” the source added.

While the pair had not been seeing each other for more than two years, the insider added that Evans “has been ready to settle down for a while.”

“He can’t wait to have a family. He was just waiting for the right girl,” the source continued. “She is beautiful, smart and just a good person. She is involved in charity work and truly cares about doing good. She is a very positive and happy person. It’s rubbed off on him. It’s the best news that they are married.”
