Cillian Murphyand the rest of thePeaky Blindersmovie cast and crew kicked off production on the highly anticipated follow-up on Monday, Sept. 30, with Netflix sharing the first photos from set.
In the first snap, Murphy, 48, returns as Tommy, suited up in a polished profile. The second image shows Murphy and series creatorSteven Knightdressed casually as they sit together on set.
Knight, 65, said in a statement, “I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of thePeaky Blindersstory, set during World War II.”
“The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders,” added Knight, who wrote the film.

The film will costarTim Roth,Rebecca FergusonandBarry Keoghanalongside Murphy, though specific plot details are being kept under wraps for now.
“There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew,” directorTom Harpersaid in a statement. “We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
Netflixconfirmed Murphy’s gangster character would returnfor a movie version of the hit BBC series, which ran for six seasons from 2013 to 2022, back in June.

Murphy is coming off of aBest Actor Oscar winearlier this year, his first-everAcademy Award, for his lead role as physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer inChristopher Nolan’s epicOppenheimer.
In his acceptance speech, Murphy thanked longtime collaborator Nolan, 54, the Academy and more, admitting he was feeling “a little overwhelmed” at the honor.
“It’s been the wildest, most exhilarating, most creatively satisfying journey you’ve taken me on over the last 20 years. I owe you more than I can say,” he continued. “Thank you so much [to] every single crew member, every single cast member, onOppenheimer; you guys carried me through. All my fellow nominees, I remain in awe of you guys. Truly.”
The actor went on to thank his “incredible team” and his family, including wife of 20 yearsYvonne McGuinnessand their teenage sonsMalachy and Aran, who were in the audience.
“I love you so much, and I’m a very proud Irish man standing here tonight,” Murphy said.
Netflix’sPeaky Blindersfilm, made in association with BBC Film, does not yet have a release date.
