TheTillactress, 41, stars with real-life brothers Edwin Hodge and Aldis Hodge in the first trailer for sci-fi thrillerParallel,exclusive to PEOPLE.

A remake of the 2019 Chinese filmParallel Forest,Parallelis about Vanessa (Deadwyler), who “takes refuge at her family’s lake house to grieve after suffering the loss of her child,” according to a synopsis.

Once she discovers the existence of multiverses, Vanessa “must reconcile the fact that these parallel gates will either hold the key to releasing her grief or trapping her forever.”

Aldis, known for roles inBlack AdamandThe Invisible Man, says in a statement, “This is an exciting new step for my family and I. Producing our first film has been a fantastic labor of love on a project that we believe in.”
