Emmy Awards 2022: Stars React to Their 'Delicious' Nominations

The2022 Emmy Awardsnominations are here!

On Tuesday, the Television Academy announced the nominees for the 74th annual awards show, which will broadcast live on Sept. 12. Shortly after the announcement, stars were quick to share their reactions — the good and the bad.

Abbott Elementary

Abbott Elementarywas nominated for sevenEmmy Awards, including outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series, two nominations for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, outstanding writing for a comedy series and (unsurprisingly) outstanding casting for a comedy series.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for playing Barbara Howard inAbbott Elementary, said it was a “delicious honor” to be nominated for her portrayal of the beloved teacher.

“I am so deeply honored and completely overwhelmed with an abundance of gratitude that comes with this recognition,” Ralph said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Thank you to the Television Academy for the delicious honor of being nominated in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category, alongside the most talented and hilarious actors of today.”

“Thank you Emmy voters for this great compliment, and thank you to Quinta Brunson for the opportunity of a lifetime,” she continued. “It has been a joy and a blessing to portray Mrs. Barbara Howard on screen and honor the thousands of educators she represents across the country in doing so. Thank you again!”

Executive producers Justin Halperin and Patrick Shumacker also joined in with their own statement after hearing the good news. “We are incredibly grateful and excited at these nominations,” the pair wrote in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “The entire cast, crew, and writing staff are some of the most talented people we’ve ever worked with. We are so thankful Quinta trusted us with helping her make this show and she deserves every accolade that comes her way. She is insanely good at everything she does. It’s frankly unnerving.”

Barry

Bill Hader, who was nominated for outstanding actor in a comedy series for his role as Barry Berkman/Barry Block in Barry, said of the news: “I’m just super happy and proud of everyone on the show and humbled and thrilled with the recognition and nominations.”

In a statement of his own,Henry Winkler, who earned a nom in the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series category for his role as Gene Cousineau, said it was an “exciting morning.”

“What an exciting morning! The news makes me as happy this time as the very first time I was nominated. This nomination comes because Bill Hader and Alec Berg had faith in me since way back in 2016,” Winkler said.

Anthony Carriganwas nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for playing NoHo Hank inBarry.“To be on such a special show like Barry is already the greatest gift, but this takes it to the next level,” Carrigan said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “It’s an honor to be nominated alongside so many incredible actors. Feeling a lot of gratitude right now…”

Better Call Saul

Bob Odenkirk, nominated for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for playing Jimmy McGill inBetter Call Saul,shared that he was “thrilled beyond words” at receiving the nomination.

Odenkirk also congratulated his co-star Rhea Seehorn, who was nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for playing Kim Wexler on the AMC show. “Hard to express how thrilled and please I am that Rhea has been nominated,” he Tweeted. “It’s the capper on a great morning. Thanks everyone for the good vibes this whole year.”

Dopesick

Dopesickshowrunner, writer and director Danny Strong shared his reaction when he found out that the show had been nominated for outstanding limited series. “Thank you to the Television Academy for honoringDopesickwith so many nominations,” Strong said in a short statement shared with PEOPLE. “I’m so proud of the incredible group of artists who put their hearts and souls into telling this important story.”

The Dropout

Amanda Seyfried, who plays Elizabeth Holmes on the Hulu series and earned a nomination for outstanding actress in a limited series or movie, said of the news: “You never know if people are going to watch what you make so the entire experience of making a movie or show exists in its own creative and crazy bubble. The Dropout was the most intense and surprisingly fun time and for it to be appreciated in this way sweetens the whole experience for me. I love celebrating this show and the brilliant people involved. I’m super happy right now.”

The show was also nominated for outstanding limited series, leading showrunner, writer and executive producer Liz Meriwether to celebrate.

Euphoria

The HBO Max seriesEuphoriathat has teens all over the country talking was nominated for outstanding drama series.

Colman Domingowas nominated for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Ali Muhammed.

“I cried today. Because I know so many people wanted this nomination for me,” Domingo said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “I am not a jaded person but I do know not to ‘want’ for awards. It can leave you heartbroken. But I wanted this nomination. I wanted this forEuphoria, a show that is trying to save lives.”

“I wanted this for every person on that set who pours so much love and creativity into what we are making. I wanted this for Sam who writes so brilliantly for me and directs me with such care and brotherhood,” Domingo continued. “I wanted this acknowledgment for the Ali’s in the world. The ordinary brothers who are trying to overcome many hurdles and do some good in the world. I wanted this for everyone who has reached out to me and said, thank you for your portrayal of Ali. He saved my life. I am proud to be an actor and I am so very proud to be in such exquisite company.”

The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes

“Thank you, Television Academy, for blessing us with another nomination for LIVE IN FRONT OF A STUDIO AUDIENCE,” the pair wrote in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “In addition to our fellow producers, we really want to thank our incredible cast for jumping into the shoes of those iconic characters of THE FACTS OF LIFE and DIFF’RENT STROKES and re-introducing them to a new generation of television viewers, while simultaneously celebrating the former producers, writers, cast and crew of the original productions.”

The Great

“Getting to celebrate alongside him, Fran di Mottola, the magician production designer who builds our transportive sets, and Sharon Long, our costume designer who adorns us in her glorious creations is truly special,” she continued. “But it all would be meaningless without Tony McNamara’s vision. His words and imagination are what bring us to work every day and push us to “greater” heights. HUZZAH ! Thank you to the Television Academy for this unbelievable honor!”

Hacks

Hannah Einbinder, nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for playing Gen Z comedy writer Ava Daniels in the HBO Max seriesHacks, wrote a short statement expressing her awe at sharing the nomination with other successful actresses.

“When I think about the work the incredible women in this category have done, I’m so deeply humbled to be among them,” Einbinder wrote. “It really is an honor just to be nominated!”

Insecure

Star and creatorIssa Raecelebrated her outstanding actress in a comedy series nomination with a poston her Instagram Story.

“Emmy nominated on a Tuesday!? I gotta give love to my Insecure fam,” she exclaimed before calling out specific cast and crew members, as well as some of her fellow Emmy nominees. “I’m really excited for everybody.”

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Rachel Brosnahanwas nominated for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for playing the title role inThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.“Thanks to the Television Academy for the raddest birthday present! My friends and family better up their game…” she said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “This season was a labor of love made while the world was on fire and we got to make each other laugh. This is the cherry on our sundae and wind in our sails as we finish our final season. Shoutout to our marvelous crew and fellow nominees!”

Tony Shalhoub, who plays Abe Weissman on the series, was also nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.

“It’s truly an honor to be acknowledged amongst this year’s incredible nominees. As we go into the final season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, I feel extraordinarily grateful to have worked alongside some of the best actors and people in the industry. Amy and Dan have created a series that will resonate with fans for years to come, and I’m honored to be a part of it,” he said.

Only Murders in the Building

The show’s co-creator John Hoffman shared that he was feeling the love after learning of the show’s nomination and of his nomination for outstanding writing for a comedy series, which he shares with co-creatorSteve Martin. “Everyone in this amazing Building of ours poured their hearts into making something that might connect and lift the spirits — even though there might be a murder or two in there,” Hoffman said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Now, to feel the love back from the Academy and to celebrate so many in our crazily talented team this morning is beyond an honor and it means the world to all of us, I know.”

Martin, as well as costarMartin Short, were both nominated for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for their roles as Charles-Haden Savage and Oliver Putnam respectively.

“Marty and I, and the whole team at ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ are thrilled with our nominations. We’re also loving that our crucial partnerSelena Gomezis recognized as a producer in the Best Comedy Series category,” the duo said in a joint statement shared with PEOPLE.

Nathan Lane, nominated for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for playing Teddy Dimas inOnly Murders in the Building,has yet to win a Primetime Emmy, though he has won two DaytimeEmmy Awardsfor his voiceover work.

Craig Blankenhorn/Hulu

But the nomination came with a touch of disappointment when Lane realized his co-star was not nominated. “I was sad not to see James Caverly’s name among the nominees since he gave such a beautiful performance but I will think of this as a nomination for both of us since we worked so closely together,” he continued. “Thank you again and my thanks to the whole Murders family.”

Jane Lynchwas nominated for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series forOnly Murdersand shared her delight in a short statement shared with PEOPLE. “How thrilled am I to have been a part of the best of the best?” theGleeactress said. “This nomination is the delicious cherry on top of a beautiful cake.”

Ozark

Tom Pelphrey, nominated for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for playing Ben Davis inOzark, which was nominated for outstanding drama series, shared his surprise.

“This is such an awesome surprise,” he said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Ozarkwas an incredible experience, I’m forever grateful for the opportunity and for Jason, Laura, Chris Mundy, Alexa Fogel, and the wholeOzarkfamily. Ben will live in my heart always- it was an honor to play such a beautiful, complicated character.”

Pam and Tommy

Lily Jameswas nominated for outstanding actress in a limited series or anthology series for her portrayal of Pamela Anderson in Hulu’sPam and Tommy, which received ten nominations.

“I feel so incredibly honoured and overwhelmed. Every single person who worked on this series poured their heart and soul into it, and I am so grateful to the Television Academy for this recognition,” James said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Sebastian, Seth, DV, Rob, Craig, and the entire cast and crew, I am so thrilled for your most deserved honours. Sharing this success makes this moment of celebration so unbelievably special.”

RuPaul’s Drag Race

The famous series,RuPaul’s Drag Race, has been nominated for outstanding competition/reality series along with seven other nominations. The show’s host and executive producer,RuPaul Charles, could add to his title of most decorated Black artist in Emmys history — if he wins the outstanding host for a reality or competition program, he will break his own record with a seventh consecutive win in a row in this category.

“As the basic human rights of LGBTQ+ people are being threatened once again, I want to thank our peers in the Television Academy for acknowledging the achievements of the beautiful and talented souls that work in front of and behind the cameras atRuPaul’s Drag Race,“Charles said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Through the miracle of drag, our spectacular Season 14 queens have touched hearts and opened minds around the planet. We will never take for granted the platform we’ve been given to tell authentic queer stories, and pledge to do everything in our power to continue to spread light, love, and laughter. To our partners at World of Wonder, Paramount and VH1, thank you for having our backs every high-heeled step of the way.”

Saturday Night Live

ComedianBowen Yang, who recently starred in the movieFire Island, was nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series forSaturday Night Live.“What an honor!SNLis the most wonderful convocation of talents and people and I share this with all the cast, writers and crew,” Yang said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “I was on a plane watchingThe Real Housewives of Atlantawhen I found out because I am a company man. Stream Peacock now.”

Severance

Squid Game

Squid Gamedirector Hwang Dong-hyuk, who also created and wrote the show, was nominated for outstanding director for a drama series and outstanding writing for a drama series. “I feel so happy and honored thatSquid Gamebecame the first non-English language series to be nominated for theEmmy Awards,” Dong-hyuk said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “I hope thatSquid Game’s Emmy nominations will open up even more opportunities for the whole world to enjoy and appreciate each other’s content beyond the barriers of culture and language.”

Lee Jung-Jae, nominated for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for playing Seong Gi-hun in the Netflix mock-competition show, hopes fans will join in on the honor. “First, I would like to share my sincere gratitude,” Jung-Jae said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “It is a tremendous honor to be nominated together with these brilliant actors. I would like to share this honor with theSquid Gamefans around the world, who showed us endless love and support, and theSquid Gameteam, who worked very hard to make everything possible.”

Jung Ho-yeon,also nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series, said: “Thank you so much to the Television Academy for this nomination. It’s such an honor to be in this amazing group of people! I’m also so excited for Director Hwang and my co-stars Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Oh Young-soo and Lee You-mi. It’s incredible to be a part of a show that so many people love. I’m truly grateful for their support and guidance and especially to the viewers for showing us so much love. Thank you!”

Park Hae-soo, who was nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, also celebrated the recognition in a statement. “Thank you to the Television Academy and everyone who voted. Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees. It is an honor just to be nominated and to be in the company of such great actors.”

Stranger Things

Succession

SuccessionstarBrian Coxwas nominated for outstanding lead actor in a drama series for his role as Logan Roy. “This year’s Emmy nominations are a testament to the strength of our show, particularly from the acting point of view. Being a part of this show is so exciting because I have the chance to work with such talented and deserving actors. No matter how big or small the role is, the actors step up to the plate because the roles and writing are so incredible and demand so much of us. We are enormously lucky and grateful to be able to perform such first-class work. The scripts are so good that you get the best actors doing their best work, and it couldn’t be better,” he said in a statement.

Jeremy Strong, also nominated in the outstanding lead actor category, said he was “deeply honored to be nominated alongside such brilliant and inspired work.”

“It is the role of a lifetime and an immeasurable gift to be part of making this show. I am so proud of my fellow ensemble members and the whole Succession family. A wholehearted congratulations to all of my fellow nominees. And as we are in the midst of filming Season 4 right now, I’ll just say this: Dad – It’s On,” Strong added.

In a statement of her own,Sarah Snookcelebrated her nomination for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her role of Siobhan “Shiv” Roy. “How exciting to get this kind of news when we’ve just started shooting again on Season 4! I’m so very, very proud of everyone who works on the show; magicians weaving angry, hurt, hilarious magic,” she said.

J. Smith-Cameronwas nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for her portrayal of Gerri Kellman.

“I am away at a remote little island in a lake in Canada. I’m at a kind of family reunion of my husband’s family – they lost both their beloved parents this year and this was their special place. It is a happy, loving occasion, though, in a physically beautiful unspoiled place. I am only able to get or send random texts, so I didn’t hear about my nomination for a while. I really didn’t expect it, but I’m absolutely thrilled – because I sort of started as a recurring character and we all collaborated into it being this wonderful, specific role that I’m delighted to play. The whole Succession cast is SUPERLATIVE and I’m thrilled that so many of us have been acknowledged. This is just a fantastic thrill! This show is absolutely a one-of-a-kind experience – Jesse [Armstrong] is a raving genius and seems to have hired all the right people!” she said in a statement.

Matthew MacFadyen, nominated in the outstanding supporting actor category, said: “Delighted at the news! Thanks as always to Jesse and his team of extraordinary writers. But I really owe it all to Honeybadger and Sporus. They’ll know who they are.”

Adrien Brody, nominated for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for playing Josh Aaronson inSuccession, shared his gratitude for being nominated and for being a part of the “extraordinary” show.

“Thank you to the Television Academy for this incredible recognition and to HBO, Adam McKay and Kevin Messick for inviting me to be a part of such meaningful work,” Brody shared to Instagram. “I am a huge fan ofSuccessionand beyond thrilled to have been included in such an extraordinary show.”

“I’m grateful to share this honor with the brilliant cast and crew ofSuccession, and the fantastic writers who shaped the character, making him so fun to play,” Brody continued. “A special thank you and congratulations to Adam, Jesse, Brian, and Jeremy.”

Arian Moayed was also nominated for outstanding guest actor in a drama series for playing Stewy Hosseini inSuccession.“I’m just over the moon excited to be nominated,” Moayed said in a short statement. “I’m thrilled that my first nomination came because of the brain of Jesse Armstrong and the incredible team he has assembled.”

Director Cathy Yan was nominated for outstanding directing of a drama series, making it her first ever Emmy nomination — for the first episode of television she has ever directed.“Thank you to the Academy. I had an absolute blast directing on my favorite show and am so honored to be nominated with this talented group,” Yan said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “It’s a privilege to have worked with Jesse Armstrong, Mark Mylod and the incredible cast and crew of Succession. It was the highlight of my pandemic.”

Ted Lasso

Brett Goldsteinwas nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for the second year in a row for playing the tough, yet sweet, Roy Kent.

“Holy fxxxing xxxx, this is fxxxing insane!” Goldstein wrote in a statement shared with PEOPLE, channeling his foul-mouthed character from the show. “For this to happen once is magic, but twice is a miracle. I’m so honoured to be included on this list of legends including two of my special Greyhounds!”

“This is truly incredible. There has been so much love for this show and I feel unbelievably lucky to be a part of such a beautiful and talented team,” he continued. “What a ride. I don’t know what to say. I’m really trying to learn to swear less. Golly gee. Is that better? Ah, who the fxxx am I kidding, thank you to the Academy. This is fxxxing amazing.”

Hannah Waddinghamwas nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her portrayal of Rebecca, the football club owner. “Well there’s certainly an ocean of happy tears in the AFC Richmond camp tonight!” Waddingham said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “I’m particularly so chuffed and proud of our newest Greyhound Emmy nominees…just as it should be. I’m genuinely speechless about the love flowing our way…that’s all I can muster right now! Thank you so much to the Television Academy for making all our dreams come true! #youbelievedinbelieve”

Andrew Garfieldearned his first Emmy nomination in the outstanding actor in a limited series or movie.

We Feed People

The National Geographic documentaryWe Feed Peoplewas nominated for outstanding documentary or nonfiction special and outstanding cinematography for a nonfiction program. Director Ron Howard shared a statement that expresses how meaningful it was for him to work on the film.

“This film, at its core, is a story about volunteerism and all the good that can happen when we come together as one community,” he continued. “Their mission is inspiring and gives hope for our humanity. It is a true privilege for me and our team at Imagine Documentaries to share this honor with the team on this film, as well as our EMMY-nominated DP Kris Kaczor, and the entire team at National Geographic.”

The documentary focuses on the chef, humanitarian and founder of World Central KitchenJosé Andrés, who shared his thoughts on the nominations.

“I never imagined such a beautiful film would one day be made about World Central Kitchen, paying tribute to the countless men and women who have joined us to always be there in emergencies around the world with a hot plate of food,” Andrés said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “This incredible honor is for all of them…and of course for Ron, his team at Imagine Documentaries, and the people of National Geographic, who have done an amazing job capturing the heart of not just what we do, or where we go, but why we show up.”

“Each of us can ask that simple question, ‘What can I do?'” he added. “People everywhere can use their know-how in their community to join whatever organization responds to what they care about. Even in our darkest times, this is the light, showing others we care. Without empathy, nothing works. With it, imagine what is possible?”

What We Do in the Shadows

The White Lotus

White shared his excitement at the nomination in a short statement shared with PEOPLE. “I am so stoked the Academy remembered us!” he said. “Our cast and crew are so happy which makes me happy! Can’t wait to celebrate with them!”

Murray Bartlettwas nominated for the same Emmy award for playing Armond shared his gratitude for the nomination and for White, who created the show. “Thank you to the Television Academy for this recognition, I’m beyond thrilled!!” he said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Stepping into the vision of the extraordinarily brilliant Mike White was an absolute blast and I’m so happy to see Mike, my wonderful castmates, and so many of our talented White Lotus team being recognized for their fantastic work. Special love and thanks to HBO for their amazing support. This is an exciting day!”

Alexandra Daddariowas nominated for the same Emmy award for playing Rachel Patton and shared her excitement at her first nomination. “It is such an honor to be nominated for my first Emmy! I just cried so much in front of a bunch of people!” Daddario said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “Thank you so much to the Television Academy for honoring not only myself, but my fellow cast mates and Mike White. I am so proud of this show and will be forever grateful to have had this opportunity and to work alongside such incredible people and to have been stranded at this resort together.”

Connie Brittonwas likewise nominated for the award and echoed Bartlett’s sentiment about White. “I am so fxxxing thrilled to have been a part of the incredible group of people who put together the amazing White Lotus!” she said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “And, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: Mike White, Mike White, Mike White. To be able to do a show that gets under the skin of the culture in such a creative and insightful way is an honor and a dream.”

Yellowjackets

Christina Ricciwas nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for playing Misty inYellowjackets,the Showtime psychological drama.

“I am so overwhelmed right now, the dedication from this cast and crew have made so many things possible,” Ricci said in a statement shared with PEOPLE. “I want to thank Showtime for believing in the visions of Ashley, Bart and Jonathan and for their unwavering support of Yellowjackets. I’m so happy for the recognition that the series, it’s [sic] creatives, and my fellow co-stars received this morning!”

Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas

The writer and creator, Austin Winsberg, shared his reaction in a written statement shared with PEOPLE. ““Wow! This is such a huge and unexpected honor!” he wrote. “Thank you to theEmmy voters! Thank you to the tremendous cast and crew who put this entire movie together in no-time flat.”

“Thank you to our amazing partners at Lionsgate for always believing in and sticking with Zoey’s,” he continued. “And thank you to our friends and supporters at Roku for giving us a home and allowing Zoey to continue on her extraordinary journey! My heart is filled with songs at this moment!!!!”
