New York Mets starFrancisco Lindoris returning the love, followingJohn Mayer’s heartfelt tribute to the slugger.
On Monday, Oct. 21, one day after the Mets' baseball season came to an end after losing Game 6 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the “Gravity” singer, 47, wrote a lengthy post on Instagram about how the Mets shortstop inspired the singer and guitarist with his hard work and dedication throughout the season.
“Thank you Francisco Lindor@lindor12bc. Thank you New York Mets,“Mayer began his post. “You never know when you’re going to find a new source of inspiration, and Francisco became that inspiration for me this year. You could see the dedication in his eyes, in his plays — you could even see it in his strikeouts; it wasn’t a case of ‘couldn’t,’ only ‘didn’t that time.’ "
Mayer then shared that he reflected on the athlete’s performance amid his own hardship, after he injured his finger during Dead & Company’s residency at the Las Vegas Sphere over the summer.
“When I injured my finger and looked down to see half the nail sheared off and bleeding, my first thought was how to play with the other three fingers,” the seven-time Grammy award-winning performer wrote. “That was what Lindor would have done, and so that’s what I did.”
“Much love my brother,” Lindor, 30, wrote. “The inspiration is mutual. See you soon.”

Despite losing to the Dodgers, Lindor’s postseason was inspirational to fans as well. The player’s grand slam in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Pittsburgh Pirates helped the Mets advance to the NLCS.
Mayer, a longtime Mets fan who has sported the team’s orange and blue during Dead & Co. concerts, also thanked the organization.
“Their monumental run was enough to unify a city, bring together families, friends, and remind us all that above all else, nothing is more powerful a force in achieving success than effort,” Mayer wrote.
