Gwen Stefani Explains Why She and Blake Shelton Will Be Apart for New Year’s Eve

Gwen StefaniandBlake Sheltonwill ring in the New Year separately this year.

Speaking toAccess Hollywoodahead of Monday night’s episode ofThe Voice, the “Sweet Escape” singer explained why she’ll be spending the holiday apart from her country singer husband.

“Well, it’s funny because I was going to be at his show, and then Vegas called and wanted me to be in Vegas,” Stefani, 54, said of Shelton, who’s set to perform at New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash.

“Last year I did Vegas and I was like, ‘Remind me to never do Vegas again.’ [But] you sometimes want to… not be the host,” added the No Doubt performer. “So I was like, ‘Eh, I’m gonna do it.’ If you’re gonna be working then I’m gonna be working — so I’m just gonna fly in and out it’s gonna be awesome. I’m really looking forward to it.”

As for her New Year’s resolution, Stefani — who released the single “True Babe” earlier this year — said she wants to “put out a record.” On the wellness front, she hopes to be more “consistent,” and her romance-focused resolution is to “keep loving.”

Earlier this month, Shelton spoke toEntertainment Tonightabout hisNew Year’s resolution.

“I haven’t managed to stop drinking yet,” said the “Sangria” singer, 47. “Even cutting back has been hard. I mean, it’s a resolution though. And I’ll say it again right now — that’s my New Year’s resolution. To either cut back or stop drinking altogether. Let’s just say I said it.”

Stefani and Sheltontied the knoton Jul. 3, 2021 at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch with Stefani’s three sons — Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 9 — in attendance. Stefani shares her boys with her ex-husband, musicianGavin Rossdale.

“I never thought I was going to be getting married. That’s just insane that that happened,” she told theToday. “I do my vows and I’m like literally bawling, I didn’t have a makeup artist I did my own makeup and completely all the makeup came off and so then [Blake] goes, ‘I know that you’re always on me about not writing songs…’ So all of a sudden, guitar out of nowhere, he plays me this song he writes me. I’m bawling."

Stefani also recently opened up to PEOPLE in September about the couple’s romance.

“I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake. This wasjust a big old ‘What?’ It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time,” she said of falling for the country superstar and his down-home life aftermeeting in 2014 on the setofThe Voice.

“He’s changed my life,” added Stefani at the time. “When I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt home, like, ‘Oh,thisis where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.”
