It’s Party Pony Season! Up Your Hair Game with Ashley Graham and Julianne Moore’s Looks

In search of a holiday hairstyle that’s elegant and easy to create? Look no further than the ponytail.

Ashley GrahamandJulianne Mooreare among the most recent stars to wear the style on the red carpet. Graham and her hairstylistAnthony Pereztopped off her Swarovski x SKIMS ensemble with the high, textured version of the style at a party for the brands’ collaboration on Nov. 7 in New York City, and the next day Moore rocked one courtesy of hairstylistOrlando Pitaat the 2023 Creative Time Gala.

Ahead, both Graham and Moore’s pros tell PEOPLE how to get their gorgeous looks.

The model’s perky, pulled-back look provides an “uplifting and fun vibe,” says Perez.

The two picked it to ensure the “stunning” crystals on her neckline had their moment in the spotlight.

Graham’s dramatic bang, with its deep, diagonal part, “balanced the long, playful ponytail,” Perez explains.

Perez says to get this look with ease, it’s helpful to use your blow dryer — even if your hair is already dry —  to direct your hair where you plan to place the ponytail. That process will minimize any lumps and bumps when you then pull your hair up.

“The neckline of Julianne’s dress inspired the whole look,” says Pita. “I felt that having her hair pulled back would best suit the dress’s neckline. A bun would have looked too strict and formal [whereas] a ponytail felt fresh and youthful.”

To help control the direction of your hair, the pro recommends misting your brush with a humidity-blocking hairspray such as hisOrlando Pita Play Climate Changeto keep it smooth. Then, he likes a polishing cream (Orlando Pita Play The Gloss Up) for controlling any flyaways.

And if your ponytail needs an extra-festive touch, add an accessory, Pita says. “Bows, sparkly barrettes or headbands can dress up the ponytail to make it look more festive.”
