Jodie Sweetin Recalls Her Mom Using Rollers and 'a Jar of Dippity Do Hair Gel' Daily to Get Stephanie'sFull HouseCurls

WhileJodie SweetinandAndrea Barber’sFull Housecharacters were known for 1980s and ’90s hairstyles that utilized lots of hairspray, not surprisingly, it was the more natural looks that they favored the most.

On the latest episode of theirHow Rude, Tanneritos!podcast viaiHeartRadio, the former cast members spoke with the show’s head hairstylist Frankie Bergman about the various hairstyles seen onFull House.

“It was also it was the mid-’80s where it was [too] much hairspray and holes in the ozone layer,” Sweetin, 42 — who played Stephanie Tanner — said on the podcast.

Barber, 48, who played Kimmy Gibler, said that her hair in the later seasons, when it was worn straight and long, was her favorite.

“I was so excited to have straight hair because I got it straightened with that like Keratin treatment. My hair is naturally wavy, it’s not naturally straight, and so I was very excited to finally get it straightened professionally.”

Perms, Sweetin added, “turned my hair to straw” — and even at-home methods to curl her hair required exhaustive work.

Recalling her mom using “a sponge roller and a jar of Dippity Do hair gel every night,” Sweetin said she still had sensory memories of the experience.

“I can still hear those little hair rolling papers. They’re almost like cigarette rolling papers,” Sweetin added.

Sweetin also shared another memorable hair look, from season 4, which happens in a dream sequence.

“I had the big blue like feathered dress … and everyone was in the tuxedos and that I loved that hair,” Sweetin said, “That look, I loved. That was the only look [that] I cried when I had to take it off.”

Barber also remembered some moments she didn’t enjoy, hair-wise, such as a a scene in which she wore a red curly wig that caused a rash.

“There was an episode where DJ and maybe Stephanie was giving Kimmy a makeover and Kimmy ends up having like that red, scraggly hair,” she said. “It’s almost like Ronald McDonald’s hair.”

“Kimmy was so excited about it. She’s like, ‘Oh, I finally am one step ahead of Madonna,’ " she added. “And I got a rash — it was such heavy dye or whatever synthetic material.”
