Jonathan Scott's Dating History: From Jacinta Kuznetsov to Zooey Deschanel

Jonathan Scott, who stars alongside his twinDrewonProperty Brothers, always keeps himself busy.

The famous contractor has been romantically linked toNew GirlactressZooey Deschanelsince 2019, and in August 2022, the couplecelebrated their three-year anniversary.

However, Scott was married once before and in another long-term relationship before hisrelationship with Deschanel.

Here’s a look back at Jonathan Scott’s dating history.

Scott met Ully, an airline-crew scheduler, in 2007 and moved from his home in Canada to Las Vegas to be with her. After a whirlwind romance, the pair married that same year. Sadly, the union wasn’t meant to be, and they split after just two years together.

“We were young, andthere was a rush going into it,” Scott told PEOPLE in March 2017. “She wanted to get married on 07/07/07 … so it wasn’t something that naturally happened.”

Unfortunately, the lucky date didn’t influence the relationship. But, Scott noted, the challenging times taught him some important life lessons: “I think that one of the biggest things I learned is that you can have two good people who are just not good for each other.”

It’s a piece of advice he said he has also given to friends “who are having difficult situations” — and one he could hopefully heed.

Although his heartbreak was hard, he still found a way to come back from it.

“I’m the emotional one between me and Drew, so when I give myself to something, I give it 100 percent,” he said. “Anyone in a long-term relationship knows how hard that is. After that, I felt defeated, but I learned a lot.”

Looking back, he noted, “I’m glad that we found that out early. You know, we didn’t have kids or anything. And it really helped me understand what I wanted in a relationship.”

“Being married was a huge part of my life,” he later said in a September 2017 issue of PEOPLE. “I spent six-and-a-half years with someone, andit didn’t work. Anyone in a long-term relationship knows how hard that is.”

Scott and Kuznetsov first met at a charity gala in 2015. He recalled to PEOPLE that their first date was a little awkward, with Scott ending the night early after the conversation veered off track. But after giving it another go the next day, “It turned out to be the beginning ofsomething truly special,” he said.

When Scott was with Kuznetsov, he told PEOPLE in 2017, “I don’t think I could enjoy what I have today with Jacinta if I hadn’t gone through a failed marriage.”

The two lived together betweenLas Vegasand Toronto and had started to look for a home in New York City.

“We definitelywant to get married and have kids, but we’re just finding joy in our relationship and still learning about each other as well,” Scott said in 2017. “We’ve only been dating a year and a half, but I don’t think we’ll wait seven years like Drew did before we decide what we’re going to do.”

However, in 2018, a representative for Scott confirmed to PEOPLE thathe and Kuznetsov split. Scott also announced the separation from Kuznetsov in now-deleted posts on Instagram and Twitter.

“When I met Jacinta in the fall of 2015, I met somebody kind and courageous and a champion for human/animal rights,” he wrote. “We grew to respect each other fiercely and know that will remain unchanged for the rest of our lives.”

He continued, “Sometimes life takes you on unexpected paths and those paths aren’t always in the same direction. There’s no drama or negativity; no jealousy or hate. Not even sadness or sorrow. Our memories are filled with joy and we will continue to advocate for each other as friends wherever we go.”

Kuznetsov shared Scott’s tweet with praying hands and heart emojis. She shared her own message on Instagram with a photo of Scott dressed as The Grinch.

“An abundance of love for J has been a beautiful and rewarding time of my life. However, life is funny and sometimes chapters change and this one has. We have deep love and respect for one another but have gone separate ways,” she wrote.

After Scott’s first marriage ended, he often found himself third-wheeling with the couple. He also continued to live with Drew after Phan moved into the brothers' Las Vegas home in 2012.

In 2019, a year after his split with Kuznetsov, Scott met Deschanel while filming aCarpool Karaokesegment alongside their famous siblings. (The couple returned to the show three years later torelive their first encounter.)

The lovebirds purchased their “forever home” in 2021, and it tooka year to fully renovatethe property. They celebrated theirfirst Thanksgiving in their new homein 2022. Scott captured the event in anInstagram post, writing that he was “thankful for so much,” including Deschanel.

In August 2022, the couple enjoyed avacationin Wyoming with Deschanel’s kids to mark their three-year anniversary. Deschanel has also called Scott an “amazing stepdad” to her son Charlie Wolf and daughter Elsie Otter, whom she shares with ex-husbandJacob Pechenik, and the couple evenhangs out with Pechenikfrom time to time.
