Kelly Rowland on That Steamy Paint Sex Scene inMea Culpa: 'I'm Happy That It Was Memorable'

Kelly Rowlandis glad hererotic thrillerMea Culpais leaving a mark on viewers.

Mea Culpabecame the No. 1 movie on the streaming service over the weekend, and viewers on social media had a lot of reactions, especially about an extended sex scene involving paint with Rowland and costarTrevante Rhodes.

“That sex scene tho. Definitely got my attention. The paint. Whew!“wroteone person on X, as someone elsecalledit “so beautiful and sexy. Best part of the whole movie. 10/10.”

Rowland, also a producer on the film,told ComingSoon.netthat the sequence was “a collaborative idea with us and Tyler, and I’m happy that it was memorable.”

“That’s what we wanted,” the star, 43, added. “We wanted people to be able to take so many different things away from this movie, but definitely to be able to tap into that side and to be able to be creative, essentially.”

While onSherri Shepherd’s talk show, Rowland said they worked with an intimacy coordinator to prepare for the movie’s steamy scenes.

“There was literally an intimacy coach there before this whole scene started, days before we did it. [They] talked to us about what we felt comfortable with, what we didn’t feel comfortable with. So it’s just like, ‘Don’t touch here,’ you know what I mean? … It’s very, very specific.”

The Destiny’s Child alum added that she called herhusband Tim Weatherspoonbefore filming the scene too.

“I said, ‘Honey, it’s going down. It’s gonna happen today.’ And he was like, ‘Okay. I’m cool.’ But my husband is the most secure human being,” she said, adding, “He actually made me feel comfortable. He said, ‘If you’re gonna do it, you gottadoit.’ So it happened. And I think that it’s done in a very beautiful way. It’s very tasteful. It’s passion; it’s really dope.”

When Rowland’s character Mea Harper “takes on the murder case of artist Zyair Malloy (Rhodes), the truth isn’t as obvious as it seems,” per a synopsis. “While she tries to determine the innocence or guilt of her cagy-yet-seductive client, it is uncovered that everyone is guilty of something.”

Mea Culpais now streaming on Netflix.
