The Grammy-winning musician, 55, revealed her current philosophy on love in a new interview withThe Mirrorahead of her BRIT Awards appearance next weekend.

“Well, I’m single and enjoying this freedom and the liberty,” she told the U.K. outlet. “I think we can make different choices at this time than we may have at other times. I guess, don’t be afraid… I have, definitely.”

The Australian pop star, who is set to both perform and scoop up the Global Icon Award at the BRITs on Saturday, added that there are some romances from her past she would have happily “done without.”

“There’s some romances I maybe could have done without, but it’s all part of what makes us human and our understanding of everything,” Minogue said.

“I’m trying to think of something great to say, but hey, you fall in love. What can you do? And you live and you learn. I don’t know what I know anymore.”

Speaking withPEOPLEabout the albumlast year, Minogue said she “didn’t even know I was going to fully commit to another album” after 2020’sDisco, before deciding to “just go in and have fun” with the latest project.

“I remember a few years ago being in a lot of interview situations where I would be asked, ‘What age do you think it is still OK to be in pop music, or to be sexy in pop?’ It was really awkward, and I felt like I had to justify my presence there,” Minogue said in September of her decades in the industry.

“So, what’s happening now very organically, I’m talking about it with you because it’s happened. I’ve not been out there flying that flag,” the star continued. “Of course, it’s a great moment for me — but it’s a great moment for other artists, women particularly, who have this kind of prejudice or bias against them. So, like I say, I didn’t set out to do this. I’ve also been the youngest kid where I had to fight to be heard or just occupy my space.”
