A Texas man accused of killing four people in Dallas, including a 1-year-old child, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as authorities chased him, police say.

Byron Carrillo, 21, who was wearing an ankle monitor that he cut off either before or right after the incident, shot and killed Jose Lopez, 50, Karina Lopez, 33, Vanessa De La Cruz, 20, as well as the 1-year-old, who was taken to the hospital where he later died, the Dallas Police Department says. A 15-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital, while a 13-year-old girl also in the house was uninjured, police say.

The Texas Rangers, the state law enforcement agency, are investigating Carrillo’s death.

Carrillo’s ankle monitor was placed on his person due to a 2021 aggravated assault charge, Dallas police say.
