Michelle Yeoh Makes a Glamorous Return to the 2024 Oscars in a Sequined Balenciaga Gown and Opera Gloves

At the96th Academy Awardson Sunday, the actress — a presenter at this year’s ceremony — arrived on the red carpet in an sequined, one-shoulder evening gown, a custom Balenciaga creation.

Yeoh, 61, who wasannounced as an ambassador for the fashion houselast November, styled the shimmering, silver dress with black opera gloves and a pair of matching pumps.

Yeoh is a pro when it comes to award show fashion. Last year, she accepted an Oscar for her role as Evelyn Wang inEverything Everywhere All at Onceat the 2023 Academy Awards in afeathered Dior Couture gown.

Stylist Jordan Johnson Chung accessorized the all-white ensemble with a bejeweled headband and earrings, both containing Moussaieff diamonds.Another standout: The look she chose for the 2023Golden Globes, which Yeoh told PEOPLE was one of her favorites. “The Armani Privé is so Armani, but it’s all the hair and the whole thing,” she said of the sparkly strapless design, which featured a peplum detail. “And Armani has always been one of my favorites to go to anyway.”

Of the power of her fashion choices, Yeoh told PEOPLE, “I’ve learned that fans crave that red carpet moment. I think that’s part and parcel of what we do, is we created this magical movie or world for them, so this is an extension of that. And to be shown these amazing — almost like art — all these amazing designers to start off with, and then all the haute couture.”

She has also learned what doesn’t work: “At the end of the day, I know who I am. You can’t let the dress wear you, and you can’t be walking around going, ‘I’m so uncomfortable. I can’t breathe.’ And you are expected to sit there for three hours and you’re like, ‘I’m going to die. And I can’t go to the bathroom.’ "
