Nicki Minaj Says Her Delayed Documentary Is 'Absolutely' Still Coming: 'I'm Sharing Stuff Nobody Would Expect'

Nicki Minaj’s long-awaited documentary is still in the works — and coming much sooner than fans might expect.

The Queen of Rap, 41, appeared onThursday’s episodeofWatch What Happens LivewithAndy Cohenand offered an honest update about the highly anticipated documentary about her life and career. Not only did the rap superstar confirm that the project — which wasfirst announced in 2020— is done and due out in the next couple of months, she shared that it’ll be well worth the wait.

“I’ll of course add some new stuff going on in it to reflect the aftermath ofPink Friday 2and stuff like that, but it’s done,” she clarified, revealing that she hopes to put the project out before she sets out on herPink Friday 2World Touron March. 1.

The hip-hop star even teased that she’s “sharing stuff that probably nobody would expect [her] to share in the documentary.” She added, “It’s going to be a great experience for my fans.”

When the Bravo star first asked the Grammy-nominated artist if the long-awaited project is still on the way, she opened up about what’s caused the delay.

“What happened was — because my album was not done when I was going to originally put it out, I didn’t want the documentary to come out without the music. That would’ve made no sense to people,” the hitmaker explained. “Because of that, that network, they had to go with something else and I couldn’t force a documentary out either.”

Minaj shared that now she’s working with “two people that are really interested” and thinks “it’s going to be a nicer or easier experience to bridge the documentary now with the music.”

As for why the documentary didn’t arrive along with her fifth studio album, which dropped on Dec. 8, she said, “I think now I wouldn’t have wanted it to come out right now because then it would take time from them really being able to really listen to music. And so now that they’ve digested the music, when the documentary comes, it’ll be a different level of emotional roller coaster I think.”

A press release said that Minaj would open up in the series about “the most challenging and fulfilling times in her life,” from her “rise to fame and her journey to motherhood.”

The“Barbie World”rapper alsoposted to Instagramupon the announcement to tell fans that they could expect “a raw unfiltered look at my personal life and my professional journey.”

OnInstagram, sheshared a cinematic, two-minute-long trailerfor a documentary titledNicki, featuring archival footage and interview clips of her discussion her ascension into the mainstream and challenges she’s faced as a woman in rap.

In the caption of the post she wrote, “Coming out SOONER THANK YOU THINK 😅🫶🏽 I took some time to perfect this very intimate, delicate, electrifying, inspiring body of work.”

She continued, “As I decide on a home for this project, I can’t help but reflect on what I’m including in this doc. Some things are so personal, it’s scary. It’s like NOTHING you’ve seen before & I need it to be handled with care. Love you so much. Thank you for the continued support. 🎀💕💕💕💕🎀 @bronstudios.”

As she confirmed onWatch What Happens Live, it seems as though the film has since found a home and will come on the heels ofPink Friday 2’s release.
