Officer Smashes Through Windshield to Save Woman Just Seconds Before Car Becomes 'Fully Engulfed in Flames'

Officers from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a single-car rollover accident at the North Mission Road roundabout on Sunday, Oct. 27, just before 10 p.m. local time,police said in a news release.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle on its side with flames exiting the rear,” according to the department.

That’s when one officer began smashing the windshield to try to grab the victim, according to the body camera footage. The officer instructed the woman to be careful as he broke the glass and to kick through the windshield as smoke and flames poured out of the vehicle.

Eventually, the woman’s leg appeared through the shattered glass, as shown in the video, and the officers were able to drag her to safety.

“Seconds later the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames,” police added.
