A Missouri couple was set to celebrate their dream wedding just two days after Valentine’s Day — when another big life moment unfolded unexpectedly.
Sara and Brandon Perry were excitedly anticipating their nuptials when Sara, who was 35 weeks pregnant, discovered on the morning of Feb. 13 that her water had broken, according to aFacebook postfrom Saint Luke’s East Hospital in Lee’s Summit.
“We were like, ‘Okay, I guess we’re not going to make it to Friday,’ " 39-year-old Sara, who is a police officer, toldGood Morning America.
Realizing that she was in early labor, Sara went to Saint Luke’s, where she told hospital staff that she and her fiancé were likely going to miss their impending wedding.

The husband of another pregnant patient — who just so happened to be an ordained minister — heard the Perrys' story and offered to help.

Sara and Brandon jumped at the idea, especially as they had already secured their wedding license and stowed it in their truck, which was parked at the hospital.
“It’s what we both wanted, so there’s no reason to delay it,” Brandon toldGMA.

According to Saint Luke’s Facebook post, the Perrys' care team sprung into action, gathering up supplies and making arrangements for their labor ward ceremony.
“They decorated the couple’s room, fashioned a veil and wedding dress, arranged a bouquet, and even acquired a wedding cake from the cafeteria,” the post read.
Sara’s dress was a white bedsheet, creatively transformed into a one-shoulder style gown. She wore a veil made of medical gauze.

Nine hours later, they got one epic wedding present: their son, Oliver, who was born at 1:47 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, perGMA. He is the first child for the couple, and the second for Sara, who is also mom to a 5-year-old son.

Oliver spent his first week in Saint Luke’s neonatal intensive care unit but is now home with his family and “doing very well,” according to the hospital.
“He’s officially the sweetest valentine I’ve ever received, and we’ll get to celebrate that for years to come, which is wonderful,” Sara toldGMA.
After their memorable wedding, she and Brandon plan to say “I do” all over again at a destination wedding in either Mexico or the Caribbean later this year.
