PresidentJoe Bidenis safe after a car crashed into a vehicle securing his motorcade on Sunday night.
The incident happened while President Biden, 81, was leaving his campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, according toCNN. The outlet reported that the car unintentionally struck an SUV in the motorcade.
Both vehicles were damaged in the incident, per the outlet.

According toABC News, President Biden had just finished answering a reporter’s question when the incident happened.

First ladyDr. Jill Biden, 72, was already in the waiting vehicle, according to pool reporters traveling with President Biden, per the outlet.
The couple had been attending a dinner with staff at President Biden’s campaign headquarters prior to the incident.

According to pool reporters, per CNN, the US Secret Service surrounded the silver sedan that caused the crash and told the male driver to put his hands up.
“The Wilmington Police Department is investigating the motor vehicle collision, which did not result in any injuries,” the spokesperson said in a statement to the outlet. “Investigators are also working to determine if impairment was a factor.”

According to CNN, it had been raining heavily in Wilmington before the crash. A witness toldReutersthat the Bidens returned safely to their home in Wilmington following the incident.
A spokesperson for The White House did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
