A San Antonio veteran has a new place to call home — thanks to the kindness of others!

On Friday, Aug. 16, San Antonio Purple Heart recipient Sergeant Anesi “Maverick” Tu’ufuli was surprised with a new, custom-designed and specially adapted smart home thanks toThe Home Depot FoundationandJared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors.

The release added that designer Tuan Nguyen utilized items from The Home Depot specifically to specialize the house for Tu’ufuli, who uses a wheelchair, and his family.

San Antonio Veteran Surprised with Customized, Specially Adapted Home

Back in 2005, Tu’ufuli was wounded after he stepped on a remote-detonated IED in Taji, Iraq, the press release said.

During that time, he lost his left leg and sustained damage to his right leg, among other injuries.

San Antonio Veteran Surprised with Customized, Specially Adapted Home

After returning home from the war, Tu’ufuli left the military and lived as a civilian with his wife and two young daughters. But after the death of his wife from cancer in 2018, the veteran was left to care for his children as a single father.

Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, meanwhile, is named for the former NFL star. It provides aid to veterans injured in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families.
