Social Justice Advocate Shot to Death During Home Invasion in L.A.: 'We Celebrate His Legacy'

A prominent social justice advocate with strong links to Hollywood was shot and killed in his Los Angeles home on Monday.

Police responded to Latt’s home at around 6 p.m. Monday and he was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Michl remained at the scene after the alleged shooting and was taken into custody, police said. It is unclear if she has retained an attorney.

Latt is the son of Hollywood producers David Latt and Michelle Satter, while his brother is a Creative Arts Agency agent, theLos Angeles Timesreported.

“Our beloved son Michael Latt fell victim to a tragic act of violence this week,” Satter wrote in apost on X(formerly Twitter). “Michael devoted his career to supporting artists, championing organizations that raised up artists of color and leveraged storytelling for enduring change. We celebrate his legacy, love and compassion.”

Latt was the CEO of Lead With Love, a marketing company dedicated to promoting artists of color.

“Michael Latt is an award winning strategist, producer and founder of Lead With Love who has developed and led nationwide campaigns, impact initiatives and creative projects alongside influential artists, brands and organizations like Common, Ryan Coogler, Netflix, Emerson Collective, Sundance Film Festival, DGA, Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY, Frieze, UCLA, Barry Jenkins and more,” Lead With Love’s website states.

“Aligning his purpose and passion, Michael continues to dedicate his career to being of service, supporting influential women and artists of color and utilizing storytelling, art and more to spark lasting change and bring hope, love and inspiration to communities,” the website continues.

Many of Latt’s friends in Hollywood took to social media to express their condolences following his death.

“I cannot even begin to express what we’ve lost with Michael Latt’s murder,” wrote executive and The Black List founderFranklin Leonard on X. “He was the absolute best of us. Rest in Power, my friend.”

“Devastating loss,” actorJesse Williamscommented on the post. “Michael was a shining beacon of selfless kindness and consistency.”
