On Wednesday, Jayden Rivera, 19, was arrested on charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, the New York City Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE.
Police then found Hanoi Peralta, 38, and the 5-year-old son she shared with Rivera, Kayden Rivera, dead inside their first-floor apartment.
All three victims had been fatally stabbed, police said.

According toPIX11 News, neighbor Larry Wesley said, “the family seemed so nice, and everybody got along just right.”
“His hard work and positive spirit made a significant impact on the entire team,” the fundraiser states. “You could always find him laughing and supporting teachers as needed, giving high-fives to the students and welcoming parents, always going above and beyond.”
“Many of us had the privilege of witnessing the beautiful bond he shared with his son, a Sunshine alumnus and the pride and joy he expressed while talking about his family,” it continued.
It’s unclear if Jayden has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.
