On Thursday, a rep for Cruise, 61, confirmed to PEOPLE that the actor will be starring in the upcoming film.
So far, plot details are being kept under wraps. The only thing known about the project is the writers: Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone. The director, Giacobone and Dinelaris previously worked on the 2014 Oscar-winnerBirdman.
The Hollywood Reporterfirst confirmed the news, adding that Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are in talks to acquire the project, withDeadlinereporting Cruise will produce alongside Legendary.

The last English-language film Iñárritu directed wasThe RevenantwithLeonardo DiCaprioin 2015.
Last month, Cruise signed astrategic dealwith Warner Bros., where he will work with CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy on both original and franchise projects.

The report said that Kruger is already writing, and sources told the outlet thatMaverickdirectorJoe Kosinskiis also being tapped to return to the director’s chair.
While Cruise has yet to publicly commit to continuing the franchise,Miles Teller, who plays Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in the film, said in July 2022 that he and Cruise had “been having some conversations” aboutthe possibility of another movie.
