The wait is over forV.E. Schwab’s next book!
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the cover for her forthcoming release,Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil— and now fans can get a glimpse of what she’s calling an “unapologetic” release.
“For many years, and many books, I’ve tried to make my identity smaller, more palatable,” Schwab tells PEOPLE in a statement. “I think this novel is a reckoning — both with myself and with my work. It’s unapologetic, a tale of hunger and the many shapes it takes,” she adds. “Hunger for life, for freedom, for love for more.”
Schwab first announcedBury Our Bones in the Midnight Soilin June, one year before it is now set to be on sale via Tor Books on June 10, 2025. The novel follows three women — from 16th century Santo Domingo to 21st century Boston — whose bodies are “planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots.”
“One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild,” reads an official synopsis. “And all of them grow teeth.”
As Schwab teased on Instagram during the book’s announcement, “The toxic lesbian vampires are coming.“Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soilis the author’s first standalone adult book sinceThe Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, came out five years ago, coming three years before theShades of Magic spinoffThe Fragile Threads of Power.

Schwab has a lot to celebrate as she prepares for her next release. The author announced on social media on Nov. 5 thatAddie LaRuecrossed the 2 million copy mark in the U.S. She’ll also be signing all 300,000 first-edition copies U.S. copies ofBury Our Bones.
“When Tor and I started talking about how to make the material object of Bones special for readers, we decided that instead of half a dozen editions with minor differences, we would make the standard edition as great as possible,” shewrote on Instagramin September. “So with that in mind, I agreed to sign the first printing.”
