Winona Rydercan’t catch a break — or a flight!
In an interview withEtalkto promoteBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, the actress, 52, reflected on the lasting popularity of the original 1988 horror-comedy classic, recalling just how often fans have asked her to repeat her character Lydia Deetz’s iconic lines from the film.
In fact, it’s happened so often that she might want to give herself a little more time in the airport.
“I have missed flights because the TSA people wouldn’t let me through unless I said it three times,” Ryder told Tyrone Edwards in a clip from their interview shared on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Ryder — who was sitting for the chat alongside her costars on upcoming sequel:Michael Keaton,Catherine O’HaraandJenna Ortega— was referring to the three words, “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.”
“That serious?” Newcomer to the franchise Ortega reacted. “What airline?” Keaton jokingly asked.
Ryder continued to say that following the request, “I didn’t get pat down” or follow any other routine security checks.
“And you refused?” O’Hara asked the actress.
Ryder said she agreed to say the lines for security leaving her stuck at the airport. “I would do it and they’d be like, ‘Do it again!’ ” she recalled. “Like, it became a thing and I’m like, ‘Please! I’m late!’ ”

The long-awaitedBeetlejuice Beetlejuicearrives in theaters on Sept. 6.
Per a synopsis, “an unexpected family tragedy” brings “three generations of the Deetz family” back to Winter River, Connecticut, where Beetlejuice was last awakened. It’s Lydia who “discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened."

Speaking about her attachment to the role, Ryder toldHarper’s Bazaar, in July, “She was someone I really identified with.” Ryder added that she signed on to doStranger Thingsas long as she’d be able to return to Lydia if aBeetlejuicerevival happened.
“I remember at my first meeting with the Duffer brothers. I said, ‘As long as ifBeetlejuice 2happens, you’ll let me go do that,’ “ the actress said. “They agreed. Luckily it worked out. That was my one condition.”
